Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design (ECIAD) – Vancouver, BC
ATTN: OFFICE OF THE REGISTRAR
Dear Sir/Madam,
As we search for meaning in our lives, we create meaning simply by living. It stands to reason that anything we create would reflect this. My art reflects my life.
I am writing to express my interest in attending the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design for the upcoming 2007/2008 calendar year. I truly believe the environment and curriculum at the Institute are very compatible to the direction I wish to pursue as a developing artist who has already demonstrated a great deal of potential.
I look forward to interacting and collaborating with fellow students while receiving instruction from professional artists in a stimulating and enriched environment. In my pursuit of learning I hope to develop new skills which will enable me to create better quality art, especially in a school that encourages a new spin on traditional art through means of technique and technology. It is also an opportunity for me to learn about how to balance everyday problems presented by the precarious tottering between business and studio.
In the past few years, I have taken a wide variety of art courses from numerous institutions, including a pre-college program last summer, offered by the Alberta College of Art and Design. It was a wonderful experience and provided me with a taste of college life, as well as improved my overall artistic abilities. My preferred media are traditional drawing media, such as conte, charcoal, pencil, and ink, and I am able to translate three-dimensional objects into line and value. In addition to my ability to articulate and interpret symbolism in works of visual arts, and in literature, I have practical experience with a variety of media, including watercolour, gouache, acrylics, oils, pencil crayon, collage, wire-work, ceramics, and mixed media. My portfolio of current artwork is accessible online at www.ericagiesen.com.
I consider myself to be a creative, determined and hard-working individual with a single goal in mind at this present time, and that is to pursue a career involving art. I realize the importance of receiving formal education in this area and believe I would be a suitable candidate for entry into your program at the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design.
Please review my enclosed resume and call me if you have any questions or require further clarification. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Erica Giesen
